COOKIES TO DIE FOR

Scott's Dad makes these cookies that are simply AMAZING!
Typically a cookie without chocolate is a cookie NOT for me, but oh my goodness!... these babies....hmmmm....well let's just say a plate of these sweets do not last long around here.

Scott got his fellow writers on Dexter hooked on these cookies last season and well, the writers were calling for their fix again.

So...the kids and I lugged out the mixing bowls and we went to work. Zane and Audrey took turns dumping the following ingredients into a large mixing bowl.

2 sticks of butter
1 cup of brown sugar
1 cup sugar
1 t. vanilla
2 eggs
1 egg yolk

we then beat the ingredients together until light and fluffy.

Then we mixed the following together.

1 cup of flour
1 t. baking soda
3 cups of oatmeal
1 cup of shredded coconut
1/2 bag of craisins
1/2 cup of raisins
1 bag of butterscotch chips

We gradually added the dry ingredients to the creamed butter.

Then I dropped tablespoons of the dough onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. We baked these at 350 degrees for 14 minutes. hint...if the dough looks wet, they're not done yet.

Once they were out of the oven and cooled ever so slightly, the kiddos and I scarfed one down before plating up a batch to go to fueling the minds of Dexter.

UNDERGROUND MOVEMENT literally

So According to Facebook and the LAist... at 10 pm on March 21st all who want to dance to the beat of a different drum are to meet at the Subway station of Hollywood and Highland, insert ear buds and then crank up your best dance playlist and ...DANCE!!!

Supposedly you dance for a while and THEN everyone gets on the subway train to the next station to do it all over again.

Here is the mobile dance scene in Liverpool a few years back:

This sounds SO FUN to me!!! Anyone up for a little underground dancing?

PERSEPOLIS

A few years ago, I read Persepolis and Persepolis 2. These books are autobiographical graphic novels (say that 10 times fast) by Marjane Satrapi. The first book describes her childhood in Iran during the Islamic revolution and then it takes you into her adolescence years during the Iran/ Iraq war.

Persepolis 2 picks up in her college years and guides you through more of her journey.

Now, I am not much of a comic book reader... ok actually...I'm not a comic book reader AT ALL, but I absolutely LOVED these books!

As you may know The first book was made into an animated film called well... Persepolis and actually it was nominated for an Academy Award this year.
I just saw the film Saturday night. It's heavy at times, but so very compelling all the way through. The animation looked just like Marjane's black and white drawings from the graphic novel. There was some pretty interesting stuff done with the animation. All in all, I am so glad I got to see this film up on the big screen!

I highly recommend both the film and the two books.
The film is in French, so be ready to read.

SEVEN

We went out to dinner as a family last week, our choice of destination was in Old Town Pasadena. We strolled up and down the sidewalk lined with old brick buildings that have become home to many of your basic chains like Borders, Aebercromie and Fitch, The Apple Store, Crate and Barrel, Victoria Secrets and the like.

And there... in the quaint little part the city in front of Victoria's Secrets window is where it happened...

Zane's eyes officially popped out of his head.

I watched as as my seven year old son starred down the tall skinny long haired mannequins fully outfitted in tiny black panties and bras.

He starred so hard and so intensely that I thought he was going to smack right into someone. Even past the store his eyes still strained for a glimpse.

"FOR REAL?!!!!! AT AGE SEVEN? REALLY??? "
"Did something happen overnight to my little boy? I mean just yesterday he thought girls were gross and now he can't keep his eyes off scantly clad mannequins? ugh!

Well a few nights later on another outing, we had ANOTHER incident of scraping Zane's eyeballs off the display window of Victoria Secrets. This time, he even stopped mid- sidewalk to take in the sights.

Scott and I deemed it time to investigate.

Later in the week, Scott asked Zane to accompanied him to the store, and sure enough, the topic came up.

"Hey Zane!"

"Yeah Dad"

"I noticed that when we've been out, you've been looking at the girls in the window... what are you thinking when see them?"

and in that moment... Zane's secrets busted out into the open and all was revealed...

"Oh dad! You know what I am thinking?"
"I am thinking... WHAT THE HECK!!!! "
"Why would anyone put those girls in front of a window in JUST their underwear for EVERYONE to see!!!!! "

" I'm telling ya, I'd sure be embarrassed if I was the manager of THAT store!!!"

"THEY REALLY NEED TO GET SOME CLOTHES ON THOSE GIRLS!!!!"
