music in the desert

Hi-ho. Scott, the formerly kept man with a few pictures from Coachella. Amy does a much better version of blogging than I do. She lays out pictures and says interesting things about them. For instance, she might say something really witty about Sheila E playing the drums as she sang 'THE GLAMOROUS LIFE". About how she's some sort of preacher now, but dang, can she bang them cans. But I won't. I have no idea about that.

Then she might tell you about the near riot that occurred during the M.I.A. concert when she pulled up about 100 different people onstage and security got all pissy and angry. They turned on the house lights and suddenly lots of gunfire broke out from the DJ and she threatened to go back to London and NEVER come back. They finally shut down the lights and the show did have to go on. it was hot and sweaty.

There was Hot Chip, Death Cab for Cutie, VHS or BETA (who are like a young U2 -- check them out, dang you. now. I mean it. Or actually probably Amy means it since I'm writing it on her blog.) I also saw the Teenagers. They're french. They sing songs about French Kissing. That's a little wierd when you're watching the show with a couple of dude friends named Hank and Harlowe. I much prefer singing along to Metallica songs or Van Halen songs when I'm singing along with a couple of dudes. But still, if you get the chance, you should see the Teenagers. They're French.
Hot Chip was also great. I danced. I'm white and yet I danced. It was awesome.

Paris Hilton passed dangerously close to me, but I don't think I caught the Hep C.

Dang. I just can't seem to make my text line up with these pictures in any sort of meaningful way. Amy's such a pro at this. I'm a schmuck. Anyway...

Rilo Kelly was crystal clear with their intentions to sort of broach that thing that only the Mandell sister did so well - - they were both a little bit country and a little bit Rock and Roll.

And Prince? Prince is the greatest guitar player in the world. I stand by that with all my heart. He's liike not lookng any older than he did during Purple Rain - is he cryogenically held in an oxygen tent? He's something else.
Ok. I'm done. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I'll answer. Promise.

Meanwhile, here's some more pictures. I think you'll like them. Especially those french ones. Those guys are so... french-like.

THE PAST IN THE PRESENT

Can you believe this Mission which was build in 1771...

lives smack dab in the middle of the hustle and bustle of modern day LA?

PICNIC AT MONSTER PARK

Scott and I took the kids to Monster Park today. It is a local park designed by one of Mexico City's School of Concrete Art top graduates Benjamin Dominguez. The kids absolutely LOVE this park so we made a day of it and brought a picnic lunch.

I even ate solid food today.

Oh happy day!

MY AMAZING KIDDOS

After my oral surgery on Friday, Zane and Audrey came home with roses just to help me feel better. It made me smile. I felt very loved.

Audrey sang me a special song that she made up called "Tofu Doesn't Float"
I clapped excitedly mumbling for more!

Later, Zane emptied the dishwasher, put away his freshly laundered clothes AND took the trash out all on his own accord.

I exclaimed the best I could with my sore mouth...
"Sanks Zane fer helpin' out around the house so much!!!"

Zane responded in his most mature resposible tone...
"Oh sure mom! I just thought I'd help you out by doing what YOU do around the house so you can laze around on the couch like I usually do."

Do I have awesome kids or what?

JUST CALL ME DROOLY

The surgery went fine.

I was knocked out.
They did what they did without me having a clue in the world. (which is good)

I woke up completely out of it.

My sister drove me home

I slept and slept for hours. (actually I just woke up still kind of out of it)

Now I'm Just hurting.

I knew I would not be able to eat, but who knew I would have trouble even swallowing my spit. Gross huh?

Anyone got a spittoon?

GOING UNDER THE KNIFE

Today is the day, I have been dreading for weeks now.

I go in for oral surgery this afternoon. I have to get a biopsy. ick!

It is supposedly a pretty painful and involved procedure, and they WERE going to do it all with just local anesthetic.
I have been nervous beyond nervous about this, I read a bunch of people's experiences online who were awake through the surgery and they said if they had to do it over they would definitely go under. I asked the nurse about this yesterday and she thought it was a good idea for me to do the same, so I finally arranged to get general anesthetic and sleep right through the all the awfulness. Thank GOD!! I am much more at ease now.

I won't be able to eat or talk after it's done, so who knows... my blogging activity may just instantly increase. :)

US WEEKLY FANTASY LEAGUE

As some of you may remember last year I was part of an US Weekly Fantasy league.

All last summer, 14 of us girls scoured gossip blogs, traded celebs, and egged each other on in hopes to win the all coveted number 1 spot awarded with a full hour massage.

Well, sadly I never even came close to number 1, even in all my glorious gossip gawking ways, but I came out sitting pretty at a final 4 finish.

This past Sunday was the big kick off Draft for 2nd season. Our league, which goes by the name of "Sweep the Leg Jenny" (inspired by non other than Karate Kid), runs much like your typical fantasy football league... but just with CELEBS!!!!. You see, each girl picks a team of 8 celebs. Anytime one of your celebs shows up in a specific area of the US weekly mag you score certain points according to which page they appear on.

My new team this season appropriately named "The Gwens" has brought me to a third place ranking this week out of twelve.

Brad Pitt
Jennifer Garner
Gweneth Paltrow
Gwen Stefani
Vanessa Manillo
Eva Menandez
Baby Jayden Federline
Ellen Page

I'd say I'm off to a not so shabby start. eh?

SINCE MID MARCH...

Wow! it has been quite some time since I did a bit o' bloggin'?. Let's see... I'll try to catch you up on the goings on here.

Here's the latest top 5 happenings:

As you all know Scott's back to work on Dexter. YAY!

SOBBING SON...
As a result, transitions have been happening all over the place . With both & Scott and I working now for the first time since we've had kids, we've had a few bumps to say the least. I think Zane and I have taken it the worst. Zane sobs at school as I drop him off everyday. I sob in my car while I leave my son sobbing at school... UGH Not fun! Scott and I have been trying to work through it the best we know how. It's been tough. But, as of Friday, Zane has now made it 4 days sob free. He seems to be happy Zane again! YAY

HIT WITH SOME NEWS & HIT BY A CAR
Lucky me, I suffered the Ides of March this year. After getting some seriously tough news, (I'll elaborate more next weekend), I held back the tears enough to make it into a local coffee shop and a nearby grocery store for a little sandwich from the deli counter and a much needed soothing latte. While my latte was brewin' a sweet elderly lady in the parking lot was zoomin'. Her gas peddle got stuck and she raced full speed ahead for the grocery store window. With good reason to panic, she whipped it into reverse to try to prevent her car going through the window, and wham bam thank you ma'am hit my car instead. My car stopped the madness. I guess you could say my car saved lives that day. She easily could have hit someone walking in the parking lot or shopping on the other side of that window. Thank God no one was hurt, but I must admit it was a little much after just being side swiped with the news I had received. UGH! But now, my car is in the shop getting fixed and I am driving a fun little Prius rental. YAY!

SICKNESS SWEEPS LA
As the end of March hit, perhaps the worst flu I have ever gotten, hit our family all at once. Three out of four of us were in bed for days sick as a dog. This flu has been going around LA for a few months now. We seemed to have escaped the awful 104 fever, chills, aches and hacking up a lungs until now. But, it got ahold of us good and hung on for quite sometime , UGH but thank God that nastiness is gone. YAY

MIKE G SWEEPS INTO LA
A HUGE highlight since mid March was Scott's and my good friend Mike G from Michigan coming into town to celebrate his birthday. Our fevers broke just in the nick of time!!! I quickly disinfected the place as he was staying at our home. I was super excited that he was visiting! YAY (no UGH in this sentence)

I had SOOOOO much fun the weekend Mike G was here! We ate and ate and ate all over LA. We went to such places as Pink Taco, Hurry Curry of Tokyo, Rambutan Thai & Mezbaan Indian.

Having spent so much time with Mike G, I learned a little something that I never knew before. Mike G has an insatiable need to play tic tac toe with crayons anytime he can get his hands on those waxy little buggers. Strange thing is, he NEVER wins, which made him Audrey's best friend.

I met Mike's friend Trent of Pink is the New Blog and David, his boyfriend of Jossip along with a bunch of Trent's friends. They are all super great! I absolutely loved hanging with them.

(photos from Pink is the New blog)

I also met Adriana another one on Mike's friends, who is an official LA Derby Doll. She is super fun!!! She's skating today, but the roller derby is already sold out UGH! I wanted to go so bad!

Adriana, Mike and I went strollin' around town one day meandering in and out of shops. We stopped at this little Mexican folk art store.

Where's Waldo... I mean Mike G?

We stopped by Auntie Emms for some amazing cupcakes and one HUGE yummy cookie. YAY

Adriana was getting over the same flu that I had, so Mike was graced with full fledge surround sound coughing all day. Lucky him!!!

Scott and I of course just HAD to take Mike G to "Scoops". And you all know what scoops is... right? Scott only blogged about Scoops once a week when he was home with the kids/ on strike/ living the life of a kept man.

What do ya say? Think Mikey liked it? (He got Basil Goat cheese ice cream or something like that.)

On the actual day of Mike's birth, Trent suggested we go out to Akbar for a little birthday dancing. Once there, however, we did not really dance too much, it was extremely crowded, But I had fun bobbin my head & bouncing to the beat while standing at our table. I really enjoyed taking in the scene, watching people, and laughing a lot with the friends we were with.

The weekend was so full. Seriously we were ALL over LA and I am not even doing it justice here in this meezly lil' post, but Mike who is a much more thorough blogger than I, has started to document the details of his birthday weekend in LA if you want to check out his blog

Well After Mike G went back to blustery cold Michigan, I went back to making appointments and forgetting appointments, such is my reality as a working mom now.

My kids have pined away for Mike G every morning. Each day at 6:30 am on the nose they gallop and leap to the living room asking "Where is Uncle G?" Sadly I hang my head and say "oh he's still sleeping...IN MICHIGAN!!"

Can you tell we miss Mike G?

Well, It has been a full month as you can see. That's my recap and I 'm stickin' to it.
